This little red schoolhouse has a home at Moratoc Park! Once located in the Poplar Point region of Martin County, and identified as one of the last one-room school houses remaining in the area, it was moved to its present site in 1972, and was restored to its original state.
The Poplar Point school was built about 1860 and was used as a school until 1925. It held as few as 19 students and as many as 45. It was the subject of an article by Elizabeth Roberson in "The Tarheel" magazine, October 1977.
